The University of California, San Diego was founded in 1960 and is located on the Pacific coast in La Jolla, Southern California. Covering 866 hectares, it is the largest campus in the UC system and is recognized as a "Public Ivy" institution.
UCSD operates on a quarter system with three-month terms. Some courses have sequential prerequisites, so multi-quarter or year-long exchange is recommended. Exchange students may take all courses available to UCSD degree-seeking students, with over 600 professional courses open each quarter.
